Behavioural contrast
CLEARLY, the findings of the Australian Human Rights Commission survey into federal parliament are, indeed, “appalling” and “disturbing”, as Scott Morrison commented.
While the report detailed MPs and staffers experiencing “a booze-fuelled culture” and a “male, stale and pale monopoly on power”, the report’s summary states that while “men are more likely to perpetrate sexual harassment, women were more likely to bully”. This significant gender distinction between sexual harassment and bullying must be acknowledged.
I can only ponder whether the “gender target” recommendation for elected MPs will change the culture.
Here’s hoping.
