Don’t overthink it
WITH the increased demand for mental health counselling and unsure if Channel 9’s Tony Jones ever needed or sought help(“Tony’s rough start”, Confidential, 12/10), there is wisdom in his understanding that “I’d end up a basket case if I thought about it too much”.
My own experience attests to that. Decades ago, well-meaning professionals told me to “sit with the pain”, only for my sadness to overwhelm me and engender greater suffering.
Realising that therapy was psychologically negative, I changed my perspective and switched off the past, fortunately rediscovering the enjoyment of being alive.
Life is full of ups and downs, and balancing the balls tossed our way seems imperative for wellbeing and fulfilment in the here and now.
