There may now be “the most significant protests” about Iran’s “denial of women’s rights” since the 1979 Islamic Revolution (“US in bid to remove Iran from UN women’s group”, 4/11), but given that denial has been extant for more than 40-plus years, perhaps less ostensibly murderous, why was Iran ever accepted as a member of the UN Commission on the Status of Women? Sometimes it sadly seems too late to save women’s lives, and the others who’ve risked theirs to protest during those decades.
