Why are we waiting?

THAT your editorial on International Women’s Day is still calling for everyone to play their part for greater equality for females (“Work for real equality”, 8/3) raises one significant question.

Why is respect for us females seemingly so difficult to achieve in 2023?

With 12-year-old Abbie writing about females in sport as “we are still so far off equality”, one can only ponder the myriad reasons for that inequality still being so extant.

Perhaps both men and women could start addressing those reasons, however complex, confusing and unconscious.

Without understanding and appreciating the root causes of the apparently ingrained inequalities in our society, it may be unrealistic, if not impossible, to attain genuine equal opportunities across all walks of life. It may involve examining your unconscious to engender a conscious awareness of respect and fairness towards all females at all times.
