Kick back at these sexists
CRITICISM of the AFLW is not, disappointingly, simply anger or frustration about the AFL’s $20 million commitment to it as Carlton’s women’s coach Daniel Harford asserts in Mark Robinson’s column (“The Tackle, HS, 25/5), but rather a manifest display of rampant sexism in the game.
That there are people “threatened” by women playing is testimony to the discrimination still pervasive. These people need to challenge themselves about why they’re scared of change.
The fact the number of female football teams has risen by 16 per cent this year should convince even the most dogmatic and irrational sexist that females cannot only play the game, but more importantly, enjoy it.
Time the AFLW’s financial critics confront their own attitudes as outdated and irrelevant.
